San Francisco Beaches
This park is very close to the tourist spots of Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. There is a wading area here which is great for families and because it is a bay beach, not an ocean beach, the water is softer and the sand is easy to walk along. Beach St. And Hyde, San Francisco
This beach is located just on the western side of the Golden Gate Bridge and it is great for building sandcastles, swimming, surfing and flying kites.
This beach is located in Pacific Heights, at the intersection of Seacliff and 28th Avenue. This is a safe beaches for families, with shallow waters for the kids to play in and lifeguards on duty during the summer. There are also picnic areas here with grills available. This is also the beach closest to the Golden Gate Bridge on the Bay Side.
Great for camping but the campsites book well in advance. The cove is at the foot of the Marin Headlands just west of the Golden Gate.
This is a quiet cove, beach and lagoon three miles west of Muir Woods. The sheltered picnic area next to the Muir Beach parking area has barbecue grills, tables, and restrooms. Spend time to search for shorebirds, amphibians, salmon and trout, and amphibians.
Ocean Beach is flat, about 4 miles long, and takes up the entire west side of San Francisco. The surf can be treacherous, making swimming dangerous. One great feature is the paved pathway which draws cyclists, strollers, runners and rollerbladers.
This beach is located by driving over the Golden Gate Bridge and through Muir Woods This location has facilities for picnicking and swimming.
